Does a Business Address Appear on the Trademark Register

Yes – once a UK trademark application is examined and accepted, UKIPO publishes it in the Trade Marks Journal, and this publication includes the applicant’s name and address alongside the trademark itself, the goods and services it covers, and the application date and number. This record is free to search and stays publicly accessible indefinitely, even years after registration.

What gets published, and when

Publication happens after the examination stage, once UKIPO has checked the application meets formal requirements and doesn’t fall foul of absolute grounds for refusal. From that point, there’s a two-month opposition window during which anyone – not just competing trademark owners – can view the application details and, if relevant, file an opposition.

Why this catches people out

Many first-time applicants fill in their own name and home address without realising this becomes part of a permanent public record, distinct from (and in addition to) anything already public via Companies House. Even if the trademark is later transferred, abandoned, or the address changed, historical published records aren’t retroactively removed from third-party archives or data services that mirror UKIPO’s register.

The fix

Using a business or correspondence address as the applicant’s address from the outset avoids this altogether – the same address can then be reused for renewals, any future oppositions, or additional trademark filings, without a home address ever entering the public record in the first place.
